Bell Nunnally Partner Jeffrey J. Ansley was featured on WFAA-TV’s News 8 commenting on federal charges brought against Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price alleging several companies illegally funneled funds to Price through his political advisor. It is illegal for corporations to make financial contributions to officeholders in Texas.
The story details that six companies have been linked to making contributions to Price. As to why these corporations have not been charged with wrongdoing, Ansley – a former federal prosecutor – suggested in the piece that the federal government may not have enough evidence. He commented, “So [the indictment] gets them close, but whether they can actually prove that to a jury to show that they knowingly and corruptly made those payments, knowing and intending that they would be used to influence Commissioner Price's decisions on matters that affected them, that's a different story.”
