Bell Nunnally Wins Appeal in Case Involving AI Research Citations

Bell Nunnally partners Jeffrey S. Lowenstein, David G. Webster and Gwen I. Walraven represented JBG Collateral in successful appeal before the Court of Appeals for the Fifth District of Texas at Dallas in a matter involving allegations of fraudulent transfer of jewelry valued at more than a million dollars. The court affirmed that two parents owe the balance of a $6.7 million district court judgment and that their attempted asset transfer to their children violated the Texas Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act.

The matter generated media interest as plaintiffs’ attorneys cited four cases regarding Texas gift law that, when pressed, they were unable to reproduce – leading to outside speculation that AI research produced fabricated results. The appeal was covered on The Texas Lawbook’s “Litigation Roundup” and on Texas Lawyer, among other outlets.

The case is Lauren Rochon-Eidsvig and Heidi Rochon Hafer v. JGB Collateral, LLC  5-24-00123-CV.
