This executive order carries forward executive order 13877 issued by President Trump in June 2019. The purpose of both orders is to require hospitals and health plans to deliver meaningful price information to the American people. The order directs the secretaries of the treasury, labor, and health and human services to take action to implement and enforce the health care price transparency regulations issued in Executive Order 13877, including: (a) requiring the disclosure of actual prices of items and services, not estimates; (b) issuing updated guidance, or proposed regulatory action, ensuring price information is standardized and easily comparable and (c) issuing guidance or proposed regulatory action updating enforcement policies to ensure compliance with the transparent reporting of meaningful data.
