The purpose of this executive order is to end the United States’ dependence on minerals produced by other countries. The order mandates identification of federal lands known to hold mineral deposits and reserves, prioritizing mineral production from those lands, as well as identifying sites on federal land that may be suitable for leasing or development and expediting approval of mineral production projects. It also calls for: (a) leasing land for mineral production to private entities; and (b) providing loans and technical assistance to domestic mineral production sponsors to ensure participation by private parties in mineral production.
