Based upon the actions and policies of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and the activities of the Tren de Aragua gang, President Trump declared Venezuela to be a threat to the national security of the United States and imposed a 25% tariff on all goods imported into the United States from any country that imports Venezuelan oil, whether directly from Venezuela or indirectly through third parties. The tariff went into effect on April 2, 2025, and shall expire one year after the last date on which the country imported Venezuelan oil.
