This executive order seeks to reduce federal regulation of the United States fishing industry. It directs the secretary of commerce to identify the most heavily over regulated fisheries and to take appropriate action to reduce the regulatory burden upon them in cooperation with the Regional Fishery Management Councils, interagency partners and through public-private partnerships. It also directs the secretary of commerce to (1) expand exempted fishing permit programs to promote fishing opportunities nationwide and (2) in consultation with members of the Interagency Seafood Task Force to assess seafood competitiveness issues and jointly develop a comprehensive seafood trade strategy.
