The purpose of this order is to provide affordable, reliable, safe and secure energy to the American people and to advance nuclear reactor technologies. The order directs the Department of Energy to work with the nuclear energy industry to (a) facilitate 5 gigawatt of power uprates to existing nuclear reactors and to have 10 new large reactors with complete designs under construction by 2030; (b) develop a plan to increase the nuclear fuel supply; and (c) expand the nuclear energy workforce.
