This executive order directs the administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to (a) repeal the prohibition on overland supersonic flight in the United States and (b) within 18 months of June 6, 2025, to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking to establish a standard for supersonic aircraft noise certification for takeoff, landing and en-route supersonic operation of aircraft. It also directs the director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy to coordinate supersonic research and development with a goal of identifying the needs for regulatory development, commercial viability and operational integration of supersonic aircraft into the National Airspace System. Finally, the order directs the secretary of transportation to engage the International Civil Aviation Organization and key foreign partners to seek global alignment regarding supersonic regulatory approaches.
