This executive order makes classical architecture the preferred and default architecture for federal public buildings absent exceptional factors. Traditional architecture is also permitted, and it includes classical architecture, as well as Gothic, Romanesque, Second Empire, Pueblo Revival, Spanish Colonial and other Mediterranean styles. The Administrator of the General Services Administration is instructed to adhere to the policies and principles set forth in the order by (a) ensuring GSA architects whose duties include reviewing or approving selection of architects or designs for federal buildings have formal training in, or substantial significant experience with, classical or traditional architecture; (b) creating the position of senior advisor for architectural design for an individual with specialized experience in classical architecture to help develop GSA procedures and advise on architectural standards; (c) seek those with experience in classical or traditional architecture in design build competition for federal public buildings; and (d) recruiting architectural firms and designers with experience in classical and traditional architecture to enter into design competition for federal buildings to be constructed.
