This executive order announces the policy of the Trump administration for the United States to lead the world in space exploration by (a) returning to the moon in 2028; (b) preparing for the journey to Mars; (c) establishing a permanent lunar outpost by 2030; (d) enhancing sustainability and cost-effectiveness of launch and exploration architectures, including enabling commercial launch services; (e) securing and defending American national economic security in space by developing a prototype for the next generation missile defense technologies by 2028; (f) ensuring the ability to detect characterize and counter threats to United States space interest from very low earth orbit and cislunar space; (g) creating a national security space architecture; (h) strengthening ally and partner contributions to the United States and collective space security; (i) growing a vibrant commercial space economy; (j) spurring private sector initiative and a commercial pathway to replace the International Space Station; (k) developing and deploying advanced capabilities and approaches to enable the next century of space achievements, including deploying nuclear reactors on the moon and in orbit by 2030; (l) improving space and earth weather forecasting operations and development of effective and responsible approaches to space traffic management, orbital debris mitigation and remediation; and (m) establishing ground, space and lunar infrastructure. Implementation of the program is to be coordinated by the assistant to the president for science and technology in consultation with the administrator of NASA, the secretary of war, the secretary of commerce, the director of National Intelligence and the assistant to the president for national security affairs.
