Karen Hart Explores on the Dallas Business Journal Meaning of New Texas Hemp Law

Partner Karen L. Hart authored the Dallas Business Journal article titled “Hemp: It’s not just for hippies anymore. Texans, are you ready?” In the piece, Hart explores the impact of Texas’ HB 1325 – a law authorizing the production, manufacturing, inspection and retail sale of hemp crops and products, including CBD, in Texas. The article outlines the legal definition of hemp and the difference between THC and CBD, as well as how the law applies to retail CBD.

The piece concludes by outlining the legal and contractual considerations of conducting business with hemp partners, as well as highlighting the possible economic impact of the hemp industry in Texas. “The potential of the hemp industry in Texas is exciting. The CBD market alone is expected to hit $20 billion by 2024 in the U.S. With the passage and implementation of HB 1325, Texas is poised to have its share of that market and more,” Hart notes.
