Bell Nunnally Partner Sydnie Shimkus and Associate Caitlin Richardson authored the Association for Corporate Counsel (ACC) Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter newsletter article “Navigating a Shifting Employment Law Landscape in Texas: What Corporate Counsel Needs to Know.”
In the article, Shimkus and Richardson explore how rapid legal and regulatory developments are reshaping employment law for Texas employers, with implications for enforceability, workforce planning and day-to-day business operations. They highlight key areas of change, including noncompete enforcement, immigration policy, employee benefits and workplace compliance.
Shimkus and Richardson note that “even relatively modest compensation disputes can undermine noncompete enforcement,” underscoring the importance of careful separation practices and contract compliance.
The pair also emphasize the growing complexity facing in-house counsel, as evolving federal and state requirements, from H-1B visa costs to cybersecurity obligations, require closer coordination with business teams and proactive compliance strategies.
Shimkus and Richardson conclude that “employment law compliance in Texas is never static,” and that organizations must be prepared to quickly translate legal developments into operational decisions to remain competitive.
