Brent Turman will be presenting “After the Handshake Deal: Proving What’s Not in Writing” for the Business, Corporate, & Tax Law Section of the Austin Bar Association. The CLE will be from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 28th at McGinnis Lochridge in Austin, TX.
This presentation will cover a lawsuit where a Tarrant County jury found that, even without a fully-executed partnership agreement, the plaintiff was a partner of the independent publisher that originally released the best-selling “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy. In addition to addressing the legal aspects of the publishing industry and subsidiary rights, this seminar will provide a precautionary tale about the pitfalls of working with others on a venture without having a written agreement in place. Both Brent Turman and his co-presenter Mike Farris represented the plaintiff in this jury trial, which resulted in a $13.2 million judgment.
